  • Professional Mission Statement

My professional mission will pursue my growth and futures aspirations in my field. My nursing aspirations is to become an Orthopaedics Certified Nurse within haematology and orthopaedics speciality. As a professional, I have worked in a number of health facilities increasing my range of skills including leadership and managerial skills which has helped my growth within the institutions ranks within my professional growth. Professionalism entails operating with the highest levels of integrity which should be merited on evidence based and organizational skills which has pushed me to continue will learning to ensure an up to date because Orthopaedics as well as any medical department is alive and keeps shifting with new innovations and ideas. All these aspirations are aimed at improving the services I want to offer to patients especially on the type of care.

  1. Professional Summary

I have a vast experience with a proximity of eight years as a registered nurse. My experience has since been built from the many years of working; I have 1 year in Orthopaedics, 2 years in Medical Surgical, 2 years float pool such as cardiac, oncology, PCU among other units, 2 years emergency department and 1 year traveling nurse. At one point I was a charge nurse which exposed me to managerial and leadership skills. I have also done home health as part time. My current position is traveling nurse. Owing to my skills and knowledge, working as a travelling nurse suits my specification because often, we deal with emergency patients who need expertise and clear decision making to save lives. Albeit all these qualifications, my aspirations once more have made me go back to school to pursue a nurse practitioner course.

Shifting amidst all these departments needs one to have the ability to work unsupervised and have the ability to communicate. Therefore, one of my strengths is to communicate, formulate policies within healthcare, consult for solutions with my co-workers and make decisions which include both patients and family. While working at the orthopaedic unit, one must be able to understand every aspect and needs of the patients because it is demanding for nurses to make clear diagnosis, prognosis and later treatment (Stålenhag, 2019). Working at different both in duty and as a charge nurse, I have gained unexceptional skills which has heightened my skill level within my nursing profession. I have also grown to be flexible, focused and hardworking.

However, as a registered nurse, I too face challenges which often is based on personal attributes which takes some of the time which I feel I should dedicate to patients. others are social activities which are incredibly important as they relieve one from burnouts but to me, while they help my mental and behavioural growth, I feel I need to work more with my patients because they need my services. Additionally, finishing my studies has also been a challenge because of the time and dedication one has to put to studies hence one cannot really multitask within a healthy facility. However, while this is true, I try to come up with other programs that ensure I am in touch with my patients keeping a balanced relationship between the health institution, the facility and the patient.

Effective communication

While communication is an important facet within clinical and nursing practice, I have found it very easy to talk with my patients gaining new skills on a daily basis. My eight working years has opened me to communication challenges with other patients that has made my skills and knowledge on communication widen. Having taken a leadership role as a charge nurse provided me with a rare opportunity to demonstrate confidence and knowledge through professional communication for my co-workers to not only respect me but also follow my instructions.

Clinical Reasoning

One of my aspirations is to fully become a master in using evidence-based knowledge within skills to practice. This therefore has since guided my clinical reasoning to gain deep understanding of some concept before executing action (Stålenhag, 2019). Additionally, in my eight years of service, I have also garnered unmatched experience in many medical sectors which has acted as my preliminary concept to clinical reasoning. Therefore, I can attest that I have improved tremendously.

Professional Accountability

Although delegation is accepted within nursing, I have always wanted to be responsible and accountable when practicing to minimize risks. Experience and leadership have also thought me to be accountable for both learning and growth.

Synthesis of Knowledge

My skills in both academia and practice have made my skills and knowledge levels to move a notch higher within nursing care and leadership. most knowledge however have been from the input of evidence practice and conducting research. The importance of synthesis the knowledge is to use it within practice and importantly in deciding, diagnosis, prognosis and treatment.

Compassion for patients

Nurse compassion is always to the advantage of the patient within practice. Compassion therefore makes the nurse to have interest towards understanding what the patients wants regardless of their diversity (Santy-Tomlinson et al., 2020). Compassion therefore is a mediator between a nurse, patient and treatment. Often compassion comes handy with respect to the patients hence patients gain the confidence towards the services greatly reducing their suffering, emotional and mental fatigue.

Interprofessional collaboration

When nurses employ interprofessional collaboration, they make sure that the patient is feeling safe and is receiving quality services. while it is important in a healthcare setting, it is one of the best patient care strategies within practice because it creates a link between the patient and the nurse. Additionally, interprofessional collaboration can be integrated within other healthcare professional offering diverse expertise within healthcare.

Genomics and Genetics

Because medical concepts continue to be dynamic, genetics and genomics are becoming important especially with diagnosis and treatment hence I have come to learn how to combine the two; genomics and genetics to provide the based type of care for patients. although, I have the skills, I need more academic insight which in future will prompt me to continue my studies in this speciality.

  1. Role as a Scientist:

While in practice I have been able to use science to make logical and rational decisions fulfilling my practice and leadership operations. Additionally, science also is supported through evidence-based practice which seeks to protect nurses from undertaking medical errors.

Role as a Detective

A major role of a detective is to examine a case and understand all the variables. Within my practice, working as a detective as been based in my examination skills, diagnosis and prognosis. Additionally, within my leadership periods, I would effectively maintain certain restrictions to my unit to prevent medical errors, patient injury and quality care through healing processes.

  • Quality and Safety

Nurses are guided by procedures that maintain quality and safety within practice hence it is very important for nurses to not only understand but also to adapt them within service delivery. I was able to work as a registered nurse in various internal and external medical services following the quality and safety procedures.

Professional Roles and Values:

Albeit working as a charge nurse with an experience of 8 years in different departments in nursing practice, I have always seen every challenge as an opportunity to learn for prosperity. Safety and quality care therefore is very important in healthcare setting because it helps nurses to grow their experiences, educate patients and reflect on my role as an accountable and professional nurse (Stålenhag, 2019). Being accountable and professional ensures that I am motivated to gain more skills within nursing care which is the ultimate goal of every nurse. My academic background has been importantly significant in integrating safety and quality within practice.

  • Evidence-Based Practice

Nursing is growing because of the evidence that is growing on a daily basis to perfect on professional practice. Using evidence-based practice within nursing care provides confidence and knowledge which is imperative in making common care decisions to improve patient care and outcomes.

While my evidence-based practice has been growing in the last 8 years, I have fully mastered the art of providing quality care and improvement of my patient care. importantly, I am now able to note medical errors even before they happen through using factual data. Technology has made it easy to integrate many healthcare systems with enormous data that when used within nursing care, care changes improving the survival chances of these patients. My fast use of Evidence-Based Practice was on surgical operations which required evaluation on the decision on how best to remove cancer tumours. I had to use Evidence-based practice to have a glimpse of what the world was thinking about cancer tumours and how best to remove them. additionally, I had to look onto great scholars on the subject to understand their perspectives. The survival rate of the patient doubled and considering the case, I can justify that Evidence-based practice has been working. While using Evidence-based practice, I noticed several gaps which was recommended too for future examination.

Quality Improvement

Quality is a key component because it organizes, assess, monitor and improve the quality of healthcare. Improving quality ensures health care teams are working together with a basic aim of producing better healthcare services for clients. While evidence-based practice has since used data and theories to support their claims, evaluation and quality checks have also been changed into using evidence.

Primary research

Primary research is important within nursing care. it is often used when there is a new idea, project or trial about certain concept. Within my professional practice, I have always done primary research to check whether something has been added into the concepts am working on to fully maximize on research.

  • Applied Leadership

While working as a charge nurse, realized leadership has many challenges which should be overseen and dealt with before they grow and become a problem. however, I realized that I need to work with co-workers through educating them and becoming a good role model. However, I was provided with a rare opportunity for self-improvement and implementation of the right decisions hence improving patient care. I have therefore gained both experience and insight towards management because I appreciate technology because it has made leadership roles very easy especially in recording data.

  • Community and Population Health

Within community and population health, it feels great to learn while interacting with people in a community setting. I am able to appreciate each community with their unique identities. I learnt about the virtual community which guided my objectives during collection of information and formulation of policies to the health care challenges within the community. As a nurse, I must therefore identify a problem, come up with a policy to counter the problem, implement to promote the practice of good health within the community. Some of the roles here are the roles of examining issues as a detective.

Health Concerns

The health concern was the rising mortality and morbidity rates within the community. To fully analyse this, I explored social, physical and cultural determinants which were the leading causes of death within the communities. In assessing the healthcare needs and tasks within the community, I explored the many literature case studies across the United States to understand the social economic and political challenges affecting the population (Meehan et al., 2018). While it is important to understand about obesity as a leading risk factor within the United States, it is a responsibility of nurses to come up with counter policies, medications and other interventions to protect the community.
