Synopsis
The article-Advanced Nurse Practice focuses on achieving universal health access to health and universal coverage. Bryant-Lukosius and his colleagues in their article examined roles of advanced practice nursing (APN) globally to inform role development in the Caribbean and Latin America to advocate for universal access to health and universal health coverage. The authors examined literature focusing on APN roles and their effectiveness as well as their international placement concerning universal access and coverage to health. Examination of the roles of APN was limited to the nurse practitioner and clinical nurse specialists. I chose this article because it highlights the implementation of APNs’ roles in different areas.

The article summarizes World Health Organization’s (WHO) goals for universal access and universal health coverage for APN roles and primary health care. The article also outlines the common features of APN roles and analysis of international placement of APN roles including the Caribbean and Latin America. Give the effectiveness of APN roles in many countries; they have been identified as a significant part of the primary care framework to in Latin America to promote universal coverage and access to health. Mexico, Colombia, Chile, and Brazil are well positioned to develop this personnel. The barriers to role implementation include physical resistance, lack of funding, education, legislation and role clarity. Bryant-Lukosius et al. (2017) state that strong leadership is required to collaborate with other health care providers and policymakers and to align APN roles with priorities for successful implementation.

Introduction

The main goal of any healthcare organization is to ensure medication is provided to patient. Resources and team worked combined together are the “raw materials” that drive a healthcare organization. The resources might include, but not limited to, level of skills among the workers, commitment and dedication of workers, drugs, motivation of workers, patient safeguarding, handling of patient reports etc. Upon evaluation of the current healthcare organization where I work, the organization has dedicated itself to ensure that patients who visit the organization enjoy the services offered. However, there is one major problem that affects the healthcare organization thereby lowering the quality of the services offered. The organization has a problem when it comes to standardizing handoff communication during shift handover.

The patient health care has become more complex whereby there are emerging complex medical disorders leading to large volume of patient records. Organizations therefore require efficient communication among the nurses to ensure that information regarding a patient is kept safe. Such problems mostly arises from joint organizations and communications among nurses. Handoff consists of exchange of information among nurses to aid in patient responsibilities and medications. Not only responsibility but also accountability of the reporting and off going nurses to ensure the patient receives continuous care which can result in notable health improvements.
