Swanson’s caring theory is an example of a grand theory that should be applied in education and hospital setting to help the patients alleviate symptoms. This theory has been found useful in many nursing settings and has caused for caring to be used as the central focal point in nursing practice. The five principles fuel caregiver's attitude in seeing the overall wellbeing of a patient through a personal sense of commitment and responsibility (Hiroko &Tokiko, 2014). Introduction

The purpose of this paper is to develop and implement a Continuing Education Online Program (CEOP) for nurses working in correctional facilities by focusing on the nurses’ Emotional Intelligence Quotient (EQ) adaptive to the stressful prison setting and supportive of evidence-based care practices. According to Lambert, Barton-Bellessa, & Hogan (2015), EQ is a person’s ability to accurately perceive and express own emotions, use such feelings to foster free-thinking, and to control our emotions and others’. Currently, the existing competency training offered to correctional nurses focuses primarily on handling and use of patient care equipment or technology. However, no practice teaching plan addresses EQ training to assist correctional nurses to adapt and cope with the unique ethical facets associated with the prison environment. The organizational culture of the prisons system can impact the practice of the medical staff working in that setting significantly. Therefore, it is necessary for health care services within prisons to establish a comprehensive understanding of the nature of the reformatory milieu, its ethos, and obligations of practicing nurses. That said, EQ training improves correctional nurses’ interpersonal and intrapersonal skills, adaptability, and stress management, hence increasing their retention rates and reducing hiring costs.

Diversity in the Nursing Profession

Understanding Diversity in Nursing

1 a) Today, nurses face the challenge of providing efficient patient care because of the increasing diversity in patient population. The increase in patient diversity often puts a strain on many nurses in their ability to provide culturally competent patient care. For nurses to effectively communicate with their patients, they need to recognize the specific barriers that hinder patient-centred care (Murdaugh, Parsons, & Pender, 2018). One issue that continues to affect diversity is the language barrier. Many nurses fail to provide quality patient care because of the language barrier. This issue primarily affects people from minority communities who do not speak or understand English as their first language. The origin of this issue stems from the fact that immigration continues to attract a large pool of immigrants into the country. These immigrants just like everyone else, needs quality healthcare but fails to get it because of the language barrier.
